These Big Retailers Are Closing Stores (and Will Run Liquidation Sales)

Seeing your favorite store close is always a shock, and the current economic uncertainty we’re facing has many of our favorite businesses closing some stores, tightening their belts, and gearing up for what comes next. Many have already filed for bankruptcy; the silver lining for us, though, is the liquidation sales that come with it.

Below are some businesses that are closing some doors while others will close completely. Most of these will have official sale dates, but for some, you’ll have to call your local store for specific information.

Tuesday morning

The discount home goods retailer will close all of its remaining 222 stores sometime in June after it filed for bankruptcy and closed 265 stores earlier this year. They announced their decision on April 29 via Facebook. You can find all of their closing locations here .

Foot locker

The shoe and clothing store will close 420 of its 1,300 US malls by 2026 . The Retail Dive report states: “200 stores in malls C and D and 200 underperforming stores in malls A and B.” To find out if one of these 420 locations is your local store, give them a call and ask. Bed Bath and more

Probably the most famous store closing right now is Bed Bath & Beyond. All remaining 360 stores are in the process of closing after filing for bankruptcy. All of their branches are running liquidation sales through June 30th to shut them down for good. You can find their location here .

Champions Sports

Champs Sports, a sports retailer, is going through the same hardships as its parent company, Foot Locker . They are closing 125 of their underperforming stores, about a quarter of all stores, by the end of 2023. You can find all Champs Sports storeshere .

buy buy baby

buybuyBaby owns Bed Bath & Beyond, and she takes the children’s and youth clothing store with her. All 122 of their stores across 37 states are closing, and you can find a list of all the stores that are running a closeout here (look for “bbB” in the left hand column). They have the same Bed Bath & Beyond closing deadline of June 30th.

Bathroom and body work

The home fragrance, gift, body and bath fragrance retailer is closing 50 malls this year in the following states: Alabama (1 store), Arizona (2), California (6), Florida (1), Georgia (2), Idaho. (1), Michigan (1), Minnesota (2), Missouri (1), Mississippi (1), New Jersey (1), New York (7), Ohio (1), Pennsylvania (2), Texas ( 2), Virginia (1) and Washington (4). Harmon

Another subsidiary of Bed Bath & Beyond that is also going bust is health and beauty store Harmon. All remaining 50 stores will close by June 30th. You can find a list of all their closed stores at the bottom of this PDF .

Party city

Party City is only closing about 4% of its 823 stores this year after they filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, which covers about 30 stores. You can find all of their closing locations here .

Christmas tree shops

Christmas tree shops that sell bargain-priced food, toys, household items and Christmas decorations are closing 10 of 82 underperforming stores, according to the Wall Street Journal . A full list of closing stores can be found here .
