All the Amazing New Canva AI Features You Need to Know About
Canva has already democratized the graphic design process by simplifying everything with templates and resource libraries to the point where anyone with a web browser can create something functional, even eye-catching – if not entirely original. Pairing Canva with new AI technologies makes sense as, to put it mildly, AI seeks to democratize all digital work. Canva is not alone here: Microsoft offers its Copilot AI features, and Adobe has its Firefly technologies, although none of them are available yet. On the other hand, Canva’s features are slowly rolling out and you can try them out for free now. Yes, free plan users get limited access to AI features, but you can upgrade to the $12.99/month Canva Pro plan to try them all out. You’ll notice Canva’s AI-powered tools under the “Magic” tag. The toolbox includes Magic Eraser, Magic Edit, Magic Write, Magic Design and more. All of these features are in beta at the time of writing, and you’ll find them highlighted at the top of each respective section. (For example, Magic Design will be at the top of the sidebar when you create a new presentation.)
Let AI design the entire project for you
The Magic Design feature can greatly reduce the time you spend creating social media posts. Find a function in the templates and pass an image to it. The tool will analyze the image on its own and create a design using text titles. You can help it by giving it a name. Scroll down the page and you’ll find several different designs, each containing your own image, eye-catching graphics, and bold text.
Automate presentations as much as possible
Instant Presentations promises to create a one-hint presentation for you. Sure, he won’t bring out a full deck, but it’s amazing how close he can get. Once this is done, all you have to do is fill in the details.
Instant presentations will do a lot of routine work for you. Give a hint, choose a design style, and it will create a multi-slide deck. Because it uses generative AI like ChatGPT, it will add extra context to the slides. When I asked Canva to create a presentation about yoga, they created a deck of nine slides with related images, including slides on the benefits of yoga, types of yoga, and more.
Reliable text-to-image generator
Canva now has a great built-in text-to-image generator. It works just like DALL-E, Bing or Midjourney and is based on the stable diffusion model. You give it a description and four different images appear. You can then add the image to your projects. Like any other image creation tool, our advice is the same: be specific in your tooltips. The image will only be as good as your description.

Easily remove objects with Magic Eraser
One of the hardest things to do in Photoshop is to identify and erase an object. I remember attending classes dedicated to this particular subject, but now it’s as easy as pressing a button thanks to Canva’s Magic Eraser feature that works on both identifiable objects and backgrounds.
Select the object you want to delete, then select the Magic Eraser tool. Paint over problematic objects and wait for Canva to clean up for you. You see the best results on a relatively unoccupied background.
Create copies anywhere
Like Notion, Canva has also integrated an AI writing model, and it’s available in any design, not just the new document app. Type / , select the Magic Write option and give it a hint. Canva is great at creating social media copy, email signatures and descriptions. Again, the more detailed the hint, the better the results. In our testing, the Magic Write feature skillfully generated social media captions and gave us relevant hashtags.
Edit parts of images with text hints
The Magic Edit feature really feels like magic sometimes. Because AI features are deeply integrated into every part of the design documentation, you can ask Canva to edit part of the image for you, like changing the color of a bike in the background or making the sky bluer.
