You Can Remove That Stupid Doge Icon From Your Twitter Feed
Every day there is something new on Twitter. The site recently merged verified users and Twitter Blue users so no one could tell them apart ( at least without the extension ). And now Twitter has replaced its iconic bird logo with a Doge . This is stupid and just another example of how far the site has fallen. But while there’s little you can do to improve Twitter in general, you can get rid of Doge for good.
Why did Twitter make Doge their new icon?
As with most corporate decisions Twitter makes these days, it’s not clear why their logo changed. Musk is considered the leader of the Dogecoin movement, so perhaps this is just a nod to that. However, he is also trying to get a $258 billion racket case dropped , in which he is accused of driving up the price of Dogecoin for two years before letting it drop. Perhaps this is an allusion to that case. Regardless, I don’t have Dogecoin; I don’t care about Dogecoin; I don’t want to have anything to do with Dogecoin. So let’s get that damn Doge off Twitter.
Temporary fixes do not permanently remove Doge
As many on Twitter have pointed out, you can remove the Doge logo pretty quickly – at least in Chrome. All you have to do is right-click on Doge, click inspect, right-click on the highlighted code snippet, and select Hide Element. In the blink of an eye, the Doge disappears, and some sanity returns to you – that is, until you refresh the page.
Unfortunately, this hack only works for the page you’re on in this case – it won’t persist if you navigate to another location on Twitter, and it won’t if you completely refresh the page. Of course, you can follow these steps every time you visit a new Twitter page, but it’s almost as ridiculous as the Doge icon itself.
How to Remove the Doge Icon from Twitter Permanently
There is another solution, almost as simple. All you need to do is install uBlock Origin on your browser, which you can download for Chrome , Edge , Firefox and Opera . With the extension installed, right-click on the Doge icon again, but this time click on “Lock Element”. (There will be a uBlock Origin logo next to this option.) Then click “Create” on the pop-up window and Doge will be gone forever. Go wherever you want on Twitter, the Doge won’t subscribe. It looks a little odd to see an empty space there now, but I’d rather have an awkward user interface than see a logo as silly as Doge.
