A Guide to Children’s Culture for Adults Out of Touch With Reality: Who Is a “powerful Transgender”?
Hypocrisy and politics have always gone hand in hand with Satan’s hoof, but lately young people’s acceptance of transgender people and non-traditional sexuality is hitting hard against a wall of scared old conservative guys in power, and things are getting very weird. But there is hope. Anyway, #hopecore.
Old, white, conservative politicians are strange
Perhaps the defining characteristic of Generation Y is their rejection of gender and sexual classifications. From the outside, it may seem that everyone under a certain age is bisexual, transgender, or some kind of not quite defined microsexuality that you have never heard of. Everything is very fluid, and young people, gays, straight people, and so on, don’t seem to care. However, for many older people, all this may seem strange, if not ominous. What happened to the good old days of rigid enforcement of arbitrary definitions of abstract social constructs? What happened to traditional values ?
Lately, the hypocrisy of a handful of conservative politicians and commentators has perfectly demonstrated the wisdom of youth and how the self-hatred that comes with these “traditional values” can turn people into monsters. In fact, they are strange people, but since they have power, they are also dangerous.
- Randy McNally : The aptly named Randy McNally is the 79-year-old Lieutenant Governor of Tennessee. According to his office, the great-grandfather is a “prolific social media commentator” and one of the social media he actively comments on is an Instagram account owned by Franklin McClure. McClure is an openly gay, 20-year-old makeup-wearing dude who posts very racy photos and videos of himself. McNally loves to leave him “super look” comments and shower him with heart and flame emoji, and he’s been doing that for a long time. There’s nothing wrong with an old horny dog hankering after a younger guy online, but McNally has a long legislative history of supporting anti-LGBT+ legislation, including a particularly pernicious anti-transgender bill that recently became law – a law that declares public drag performances of criminal offenses. So this guy Randy is sending someone a damn heart emoji at night while working to keep people like his instagram jailed during the day.
- Bill Lee : Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee doesn’t leave greedy comments for Instagram models (that we know of), but he signed a bill to criminalize drag performances in Tennessee, although there are photos of him in drag style . But don’t worry, it was a “light-hearted school tradition” when Lee did it, so it’s okay. In fact, even bringing this up is “disrespectful to Tennessee families.” What if you try ? They will throw away the key.
- Nate Schatzline: Texas Republican legislator from Fort Worth, Nate Schatzline wrote House Bill 1266, which aims to ban drag shows in the state. According to the bill, a drag performance is “any performance in which the performer displays a gender identity other than the gender of the performer assigned at birth through the use of clothing, makeup, or other physical markers, as well as singing, lip-syncing, dancing, or other acts.” . in front of the public for entertainment.” This video then surfaced , showing Schatzline, who was assigned the gender “male” at birth, performing in a dress, presumably for someone’s amusement. Since he can’t deny it’s him, Schatzline tried to explain the video by saying that he was wearing the dress to make a joke because his friends dared to. His bill, however, makes no distinction for transvestites who have been dared by their friends. In Schatzline’s defense, his video is considered the least fun drag performance I’ve ever seen.
- Michael Knowles : Last week at the Reich Party Congress in Nuremberg, wait, I mean the Conservative Political Action Conference in Maryland, commentator Michael Knowles proclaimed that “transgenderism must be eradicated” to thunderous applause from the crowd. So, of course, there are pictures of him in clothes . Video too . Knowles did not respond publicly, but he would probably have said something along the lines of: “Yes, I was in a dress, but I was mocking Elizabeth Warren! I also bullied Native Americans! So it’s legal!” Here’s what’s really going on here: no one tries to ban men from wearing women’s clothing as long as your motivation is to ridicule and belittle women.
The growth of “merchant wives”
It’s not just old white guys who question all this “tolerance.” There is a growing subculture of young women online who are asking, “Why don’t we all just go back to the kitchen?” They call themselves “merchant wives” and they’re creepy.
Esty Williams is a typical powerful saleswoman. She posts photos and videos of herself baking and cleaning while her husband allegedly works for a 1950s advertising agency. “I put my husband’s wishes before my own, and this is only to the benefit of me and my marriage,” says Williams.
Williams can lead any perverted lifestyle she chooses, but some Trajan women are associated with white supremacists , and even if they aren’t, it’s still gross and underhanded. They make a false argument for a post-war lifestyle that barely existed, was only open to relatively wealthy white people, and was based on oppression and patriarchy anyway. Luckily, the comment sections are full of “girl, are you out of your mind” doubles.
#Hopecore takes over TikTok
Let’s clear our minds of political troubles with #hopecore. This fast-growing sub-genre of TikTok videos reminds us that the world isn’t just made up of hypocritical politicians and creepy anti-feminists. There are also moments of joy , compassion and triumph worth celebrating. Put a few together in a video and you have #hopecore. Yes, it’s cringing, but so is hope. Accept the cringe.
Viral Video of the Week: The Deceptive World of Ghost Kitchens
I fell victim to the Ghost Kitchen delivery app during the pandemic and will never forgive myself. I knew there wasn’t a restaurant called Ramona’s Tacos three miles from my house, but I ordered from there anyway. The place looked good on the app – it looked legit – maybe I just didn’t notice it.
The burrito I got was serviceable but boring, like something from a diner. I was momentarily puzzled, but that didn’t inspire me to find out how this odd burrito ended up in my living room. However, YouTuber Eddie Burbuck did just that. In his Deceptive World of Ghost Kitchens video, Burbuck takes a deep dive into Instacart, grubhub and everything else and returns with a weirder, more dystopian and more depressing story than anything I could have imagined. I don’t want to spoil it, but it’s all a racket, everyone is trying to swindle you, nothing fake, and it will only get worse. See also: The burger you order at Meaty Wow!
