These Airlines Do Not Charge Extra for Families to Sit Together
Earlier this month, in the US Congress, President Joe Biden denounced the practice of charging “garbage fees” in the service sector.
“We force airlines to show you the full price of the ticket in advance and refund you if your flight is canceled or delayed,” Biden said. “And we will prohibit airlines from charging families up to $50 round trip just to sit together. Baggage fees are bad enough – they can’t just treat your child like part of the luggage.”
In response, the Department of Transportation has proposed a new rule that would require airlines and online booking platforms to advance the total cost of a ticket, including luggage and other fees. Also, one of the biggest changes to the rule is that you no longer have to pay extra to babysit. You can expect more airlines to become more family friendly in the near future.
Which airlines allow passengers to sit with children for free?
Each airline has its own rules and tariffs. Prior to the State of the Union Act, more airlines were charging non-frequent fliers to select an economy class seat, among others, especially low-cost carriers such as Frontier and Spirit. Here are the airlines that recently changed their rules:
United Airlines
Starting in March, travelers who have booked tickets with United will be able to seat their children next to them if they are under 12 years old. If there are no available seats nearby, passengers can rebook their flights free of charge. United’s main customer service office said customers can expect more family viewing features this year.
Frontier Airlines
Frontier has also changed their policy on charging families for shared seating: they now allow children to be seated with their parents at no additional charge. The new policy will allow children under the age of 14 to automatically be accommodated free of charge with at least one parent or guardian. The process will take place automatically before the registration window opens.
Breeze Airways
Breeze Airways allowed families to sit together at no extra cost even before it got chilly. The low-cost airline also does not charge a fee for changing or canceling a flight. “Allowing families with young children to choose seats together at no extra charge, even if they book our Good Package, is what makes us stand out and shows how much we care about our guests,” Lucas Johnson, Breeze Commercial Director, said Yahoo .

Southwest Airlines’ unique boarding process gives each passenger an A, B, or C group. Once on board, you choose any available seat. They have a ” Family Boarding ” program that helps children under 13 sit with their parents.
