The Easiest Way to Add Hyperlinks to Notes and Mail on Your IPhone

The Mail and Notes apps for the iPhone have received some great features over the years, but one notable omission is the ability to add hyperlinks. For reasons known only to Apple, Mail and Notes don’t allow hyperlinks to be inserted into text like they do on the Mac. Of course, you can paste the URL and put it in parentheses, but that would take up too much screen space (plus it’s unsightly). While Apple won’t fix the problem, you can fix it yourself.

How to Add Hyperlinks to Apple Mail and Notes on Your iPhone

The trick to creating useful hyperlinks again lies in the endlessly useful Apple Shortcuts app . To get started , make sure you have the app installed on your iPhone , click the following link to the Create Rich Text Hyperlink shortcut, then select Get Shortcut. Click “Add Shortcut” on the pop-up window and you’re done.

Now open any website in Safari on your iPhone and hit the share button. Scroll down and select Make rich text hyperlink . The shortcut will ask you to enter the text where you want to insert the hyperlink. From here, the shortcut will copy the embedded hyperlink to the clipboard. You can now open Notes or Mail and paste the hyperlink text along with other text.

The best feature of this shortcut is that it works with all apps that support Shared Sheet. You can open Instagram or TikTok and easily create hyperlinked text blocks to share your favorite videos. You can also use this shortcut independently by adding it to your iPhone’s Home screen or launching it from the Shortcuts app. If someone sends you a URL via iMessage or another messaging app, you can copy it to your clipboard and run this shortcut to create an embedded hyperlink.
