Valentine’s Day Gifts Most (and Least) Affected by Inflation

As Valentine’s Day approaches in a few days, those who choose to celebrate the holiday may shower their loved ones with gifts. And while there are no universal tokens of affection, there are certain gifts and acts that are considered traditional or, depending on your point of view, cliché.

Like other goods and services, the value of some, but not all, of these gifts has increased as a result of inflation. Here’s what to consider when shopping for Valentine’s Day this year, if you haven’t already.

Valentine’s Day gifts that have risen in price in 2023

The rise in prices over the past year has shocked many of us, and generally speaking, Valentine’s Day gifts are no exception. To find out just how much this holiday might turn people off, Point2 put together a report that analyzes price differences for several popular gifts and events between 2022 and 2023.

According to their data , expect to pay more for:

  • Movie tickets (up 6.47% compared to 2022)
  • Wine (a bottle costs 3.52% more than last year)
  • Candles (up to 8.7%)
  • Dozen Roses (up 3.94%)
  • Silver (up to 5.05%)
  • Box of chocolates (up 8.47%)
  • Romantic dinner (up 16.67%).
  • Perfume (up to 9.87%)
  • Gold (up 5.89%)
  • Romantic getaway (up to 16.03%)

Valentine’s Day gifts hit least by inflation in 2023

Luckily, there are a few traditional Valentine’s Day gifts that cost the same or less than last year. According to Point2 ‘s analysis, they are:

  • Greeting cards (price is the same as in 2022)
  • Diamonds (down 9.6%)
  • Platinum (down 0.19%)
  • Fillet Steak (8% reduction)
