Make Fluffy Icing With Condensed Milk and Butter

Sweetened condensed milk is an ingredient in many delicious treats such as dulce de leche , brigadeiro , Thai iced coffee, and a variety of other delicacies . This viscous, sweet dairy product is renowned for its malty, caramel flavor and thick consistency, which makes it suitable for a variety of culinary applications. It dissolves easily in hot coffee, but when whipped with saturated fat, it turns into a fluffy cake icing.

This frosting has a light, airy texture and a fantastic taste with subtle hints of caramelized milk. Sweetened Condensed Milk comes pre-sweetened – it’s right there in the name! So there is no need to add sugar. The only additional ingredient you will need is butter.

Sweetened condensed milk glaze is easy to prepare and takes about ten to fifteen minutes. The only issue I had was that my oil got too cold during the mixing process (sorry oil, heat is expensive these days). It is important to use soft butter, not just room temperature. Use the microwave if your home is cold (or try these methods ) and your frosting will cook much faster.

Add the softened butter to the bowl of a stand mixer (you can also use a hand mixer). Beat the butter with a whisk attachment until it is light in color and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Don’t forget to clean the bottom and sides. Add condensed milk, a little at a time, beating after each addition. (I did this in four batches because it’s not easy to pour in without the whisk shooting strands of condensed milk all over the place.) Beat for a few minutes until the mixture is fluffy.

This frosting is ready to serve as is, although some people may like a little vanilla extract and/or a pinch of salt. Try adding food coloring or various flavors, adding some extracts, melted chocolate, espresso powder, fruit puree or powders . Spread it on puff pastries, drizzle it on cupcakes, melt it on hot waffles, or eat it with a spoon (the real test of good frosting).
