The Easiest Ways to Sync IMessages Across All Your Devices
I recently bought a new iPhone and for the most part I love it. What I didn’t like was that my iMessages on my new iPhone didn’t sync with my other Apple devices. Sure, my new phone had my most recent messages, but things got weird from there. For example, most of the messages I saw when I first opened many of my chats were from 2017 , which isn’t ideal. Fortunately, I managed to solve this problem, and you can too.
iMessages sometimes don’t sync across your Apple devices
For some reason, when you set up a new iPhone or Apple device and try to sync it with messages stored in iCloud, your new device may not download all available messages. You’ll see messages you sent that day, but then run into messages from years ago with nothing in between. It’s possible that your phone is still downloading your iMessage library, which, depending on its size, can take a long time. However, if you don’t see any signs that your phone is still booting up, you might just be stuck.
Many iMessage address problem
The great thing about iMessage is that you can use it on any supported Apple device. While the usual contact option on your iPhone is your phone number, you can also use an email address. This can complicate matters: if iMessage defaults to an email address on one device and not another, it could cause iMessage delivery mismatches (and also cause your email address to be shown to some people instead of your name if they didn’t add your email address). to your contact stored on their phone).
The first thing to do to fix the iMessage sync issue is to make sure you’re using the same settings across your devices. On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Messages , and on a Mac, open Messages, go to Settings , and select the iMessage tab . Make sure the same contact methods are marked for “You can be contacted for messages at,” and to avoid confusing people on your iPhone, choose your phone number as the option to start new conversations with.
Mac can sync iMessages quickly
The good news is that if you have a Mac, iMessages syncing becomes much easier. For some reason, Apple keeps the instant sync button for iMessages on Macs but not on their other devices. This gives you an easy way to quickly sync everything as long as that Mac is signed in to your Apple ID and connected to Messages in iCloud at the same time.
Open the Messages app on your Mac, then go to the app’s settings page. Select the “iMessage” tab, find the “Sync now” button and click it. This made your Mac contact iCloud and sync everything. The hope is that by forcing your Mac to sync your messages with those in iCloud, it will also force you to sync on your new iPhone, where you should then see messages you haven’t seen before.
How to sync messages on iPhone without Mac
If this feature doesn’t work for you or you don’t have a Mac, there is another way to fix the problem. On your new iPhone, go to Settings, tap your name at the top, and select iCloud. Click “Show All” then “Messages” and you should see Messages enabled in iCloud. Turn it off, then select the option to download all messages to your device.
However, you are not going to wait for this process to complete. Just tap the switch again to turn Messages back on iCloud, which should trigger an iCloud sync when the feature comes online again. Return to the Messages app and you should notice a new “messages loading” progress bar at the bottom of the screen. This may take some time, but when it does, you will be able to see all of your messages, not just some of them. In addition, you can continue to send messages to people as usual while you wait for the rest of your messages to load in the background.
