This App Uses Artificial Intelligence to Create Custom Playlists
If you’re tired of music streaming apps deciding what you should listen to, you can take back the power. PlaylistAI is an application that uses artificial intelligence to help you create playlists easily and is compatible with Spotify and Apple Music. It lets you specify the type of music you’re looking for and creates custom playlists for you. Here are some ways to use PlaylistAI to broaden your musical horizons.
Create playlists from music festival posters
Major music festivals tend to announce their lineups with a large poster that lists the names of all participating bands. PlaylistAI can scan these posters, identify all the artists and create amazing playlists for you. You simply take a screenshot of the poster and upload it to PlaylistAI.
I tried it with a poster for the Bottlerock music festival. The application identified all the groups on the poster and made it possible to remove those that did not interest me. It will also ask you to select the number of songs from each group that you would like to add to your playlist. With five songs per group, PlaylistAI created a playlist of over 300 songs and I was able to enjoy the music of the festival without the cost and the crowds.
Create playlists from TikTok videos
PlaylistAI also works with TikTok videos. There are many creators who make compilations on TikTok and if you find a video with multiple songs, you can save it to your photo gallery and import it to PlaylistAI.
The app can detect these songs and put together a playlist for you. However, there is a catch: you need to give PlaylistAI access to your microphone in order to be able to discover songs. It asks you to play these videos through your iPhone’s speaker and uses sound recognition to find the music. You need to be in a quiet place during the audio recognition process, because if the app can’t hear the songs clearly, it can’t put together accurate playlists.
While the app specifically promotes TikTok videos, you can use this feature with any video in your photo gallery. If there are multiple songs in the video, the app can create a corresponding playlist.
Use custom search terms or listening history for playlists
PlaylistAI is also pretty good at using your search terms to create playlists. You can select any genre and decade to easily find good playlists, or try a random hint depending on your mood. For example: “metal of the 1970s” or “lo-fi music for study.” You have the option to remove artists you don’t like and look for other artists if the app choice doesn’t suit you.
If you’re a Spotify user, you can also allow the app to access your listening history to create playlists. This feature is currently not available for Apple Music.
PlaylistAI lets you create up to three playlists for free, and unlocking unlimited playlists and removing the watermark from the playlist cover costs $2.99 per month.
