12 Deleted Scenes That Made Their Movies Better

There is a lot of excitement among Muppets fans, and true fans will know exactly what I’m talking about: after a couple of years of idleness, Disney+ will finally offer the full version of The Muppets Christmas Carol on the streaming service starting December 9th. The expansion includes one scene, the musical number “When Love Has Gone”. It was cut after the film’s original release, although it has occasionally appeared on VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray releases. I’m guessing the executives just took the slow number as a little depressing, but it also raises the emotional bond between Scrooge and Belle amid the usual Muppets silliness. This bit is currently on the Disney+ Extras tab as a bonus, where the full movie will release in December (the main screen version will remain truncated).

Talk about magic in the air! For various reasons, films often undergo changes shortly before or shortly after their original release, often leading to efforts in later years to assemble these films into something like the director’s original intent (sometimes well before the director’s death). These cuts can be a revelation – especially when they really reflect the original concept – or they can mess around with a film that was already good, thank you very much (looking at you, George Lucas). All of these films were modified early on and then “fixed” and each includes at least one restored scene that recontextualizes and enhances the film as a whole.
