How to Actually Get Tickets for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour
It’s not an exercise: Taylor Swift has announced dates for The Eras Tour , hitting the road for the first time since 2018. She was due to tour in 2020 in support of her 2019 album Lover , but even Taylor Swift couldn’t stop. COVID from canceling a planned world tour.
Counting Lover , Swift has released four new albums, including the recent Midnights , since her last concert, and that’s not counting her re-recordings of earlier albums. How do you get Eras Tour tickets?
If the internet hype has pissed you off, don’t worry: Tickets aren’t on sale yet, which means you haven’t missed your chance to attend one of Taylor’s stadium concerts. At least not yet.
Even aside from pent-up demand in the era of the pandemic, buying Taylor Swift tickets has never been a simple deal, more of a struggle. And this time, you’ll be competing against other Swifties who haven’t seen Taylor live since 2018. I wish you luck because you will need it. Here’s what you need to do to improve your chances.
Create a Ticketmaster account. If you don’t have one, open a Ticketmaster account now . Yes, you can do this at any point in the process, but it’s much faster to have an account handy. Also important, if you have bought tickets to Lover Fest, you will have privileged status during this process, which means you will likely have a chance to buy tickets ahead of those who have not bought seats to Lover Fest. However, in order to receive this status, you must be logged in with the same Ticketmaster account that you used for Lover Fest.
Register for the Verified Fans Presale . You must do it. Without registering, you won’t even be able to buy tickets when they go on sale for the first round. There’s no need to rush to register: The website claims it doesn’t matter when you throw your name in the hat, as long as you do so before November 9 at 11:59 pm ET . If you try to check in today it might take a while (the queue is long ) but I guess the process will speed up over time. Or will it? Don’t wait for the evening of November 9th, that’s what I’m saying.
Select dates. Once you’re at the front of the line, you’ll have the option to sign in with Ticketmaster (which is why having an account is so important). Once logged in, enter all the required information, including the show you wish to receive tickets for. You need to choose one show, but you can choose up to two other backups in case your first choice doesn’t work.
Coordinate with your fellow Swifties. If you’re trying to buy tickets with a group, join forces. If you’re in an area with two shows available (for example, MetLife in New Jersey is booked for both May 26th and May 27th), it’s possible you’ll prioritize the 26th while a friend is targeting the 27th. -e. In this way, you will increase your chances of getting into at least one show, if not both.
When you are done entering all the information, click Submit. Be careful: at the time of this writing, the system is buggy. There are so many people trying to check in at the same time that you might not get through. I tried to check in twice before the system loaded me back to the back of the queue, making me wait again. Remember, it doesn’t matter when you sign up as long as you do so before November 10th, so you can safely try again later.
Assuming you work around the crashes, you’ll receive an email confirming your registration, including details of what’s next. But even if you register, there is no guarantee that you will receive tickets. You will need to wait to see if you have been selected to purchase tickets. Here’s how it works.
What to do when tickets for The Eras Tour go on sale
On the evening of Monday, November 14, you will receive an email if you have been selected for the first round of ticket sales, along with instructions on how to purchase tickets. You will also receive a text message with your personal access code. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, November 15 at 10:00 am local time . The lounge opens in 10 minutes, so be sure to click on the link before 9:50 am . One more caveat (there are many): having an access code also does not guarantee you tickets, it only gives you the opportunity to buy tickets.
As soon as ticket sales open, you will be assigned a seat in the queue. If you pass, you will have the option to purchase up to six tickets to any show you have been selected to. Congratulations!
If this all sounds like a lot of work, or if you just like living dangerously, Ticketmaster has also scheduled a general sale for unverified users starting Friday, November 18 at 10:00 AM . Don’t rely on this option if you really want to buy tickets. Demand for this tour is likely to be historically high (context: Midnights just recorded the best first week album sales since 2015 ). If you’re having trouble getting tickets during the pre-sale, I can’t imagine how difficult it will be to get seats during the general sale.
