You Can Get a Rolex for “cheap” Right Now
Most of us can’t afford a Rolex (or other high-end luxury watches, for that matter). But if there ever was a time when those closest to this financial milestone could afford it, it’s now. According to a Morgan Stanley report , pre-owned luxury watches have fallen in value because the market has been flooded with supply, and they are also predicted to fall further towards the end of the year. So if you’ve ever wanted to splurge on one, now is the time.
Which luxury watches are on sale?
Used luxury watches from Rolex, Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet are the things to look out for. According to WatchCharts, an index that tracks the price of luxury watches, they peaked in price in the first quarter of 2021 and then began a steep decline that appears to be continuing. Rolex prices have dropped over 19% in the past six months, from an average market high of around $36,000 in March to $29,000 today, as of this writing.
Shares in other brands such as Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet have fallen 19% and 15% respectively in the secondary market since peaking in April this year.
According to WatchCharts, one of the watch models most affected was the Rolex Oyster Perpetual , which, at the time of this writing, has fallen 28.7% in value over the past six months. Some of them can be found on the used car market for as little as $2,100.
Where can I buy Rolex, Patek Philippe or Audemars Piguet watches at a discount?
There are websites such as Bob’s Watches and Chrono24 that sell verified authentic luxury watches. You can try your luck on eBay and see what you can find, but there is no guaranteed proof of authenticity.
“Given the current inventory of watches for sale and the deteriorating macroeconomic environment, we expect used goods prices to decline quarter on quarter,” Morgan Stanley said, according to Bloomberg .
