How to Reduce Glare on Your TV
Even with all their bells and whistles, most modern TVs are prone to glare to at least some degree. Whether it’s sunlight streaming in through a window or various lighting fixtures in a room, at certain times of the day, the color of at least part of the screen appears distorted.
Depending on the TV and how the room is set up, it may not be possible to completely eliminate screen glare, but there are ways to reduce it. Here are some that you might want to try.
How to reduce glare on your TV
While there are specific products that claim to reduce or eliminate glare from your TV screen, we’re going to stick with methods that don’t require an additional purchase, such as:
Position the TV on the basis of the windows
Sometimes the layout of the room dictates the placement of the TV. But if you have options, avoid placing the TV in front of or opposite windows , especially those facing west.
Adjust the settings on your TV
The default brightness, contrast, and color intensity settings on a TV are usually based on the assumption that you are indoors, in a glare-free room. This is why most outdoor TV setup instructions recommend adjusting the settings listed above to get the best possible picture. You can try the same tactic to reduce glare on an indoor TV screen.
Put a lamp behind the TV
Placing the lamp behind the TV increases the ambient light in the room, which in turn reduces the amount of light reflected from the screen. Just make sure the light emitted by the lamp is as neutral in color as possible, otherwise it will make that color less visible on your TV. For example, light sources with a bluish tint can make the blue on the screen less bright.
Tilt your TV
Some wall-mounted TVs are set up so that they can be adjusted, allowing them to be directed in different directions. These models can usually also be tilted , giving you the ability to move the screen slightly towards the ceiling or floor, which may be enough to eliminate screen glare.
