You Can Still Get a Refund for a Recalled Peloton Treadmill
Those who joined the Peloton pandemic in 2021 and took their Tread+ treadmill only to find out it was being recalled now have more time to return it for a full refund. Peloton has extended the deadline for returning recalled workout equipment to November 6, 2023. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission has been pushing Peloton since early 2021 to address the dangerous issues it faces for children and pets.
The review addresses a real security issue. Last April, a child died in a treadmill accident , prompting CPSC to warn consumers to stop using Tread+. Peloton initially responded that there was no reason for customers to stop using their products as long as they followed the safety guidelines. The company later apologized for not taking action sooner and agreed to the recall. As they have yet to find a solution to the problem the recall is intended to address, Peloton has now agreed to extend the return window for another year.
The CSPC reported a total of 335 official treadmill incidents and 87 consumer injury reports. More recently, there have been 18 reports of loose touchscreen, six reports of touchscreen detachment, and several warnings of a dangerous gap between the treadmill band and the floor. In total, approximately 125,000 Tread+ treadmills have been recalled.
Peloton is currently working on a solution to a dangerous issue where users, children or pets are pulled under the treadmill, which can result in serious injury or death.
