How to Label Pill Packs so You Don’t Miss a Dose

If you’re on a lot of medication, you probably have some sort of system in place to make sure you don’t miss any – like an organizer that sorts out your pills by day and hour when they should be taken, or a series of reminders on your phone. But what about when you only have one set of pills and you don’t need an entire organizational system, you just want to make sure you don’t go astray? Enter this simple hack I learned from a Reddit user .

This works for blister packs, those flat packs where each pill is in its own little vial. You use a permanent marker to write the date on each tablet. The redditor wrote on the transparent surfaces of the bubbles; I also did this by writing on the side of the foil. Take a minute to label your pills when you first get your prescription, and after that, you’ll always have a visual reminder of whether you’ve taken a pill during the day.

Now this trick only tells you if you took the pill during the day, so you still need other ways to remind yourself that you really should take it. You can put the bag in a place where you will see it often (for example, on the refrigerator or on a shelf somewhere at eye level) so that you will definitely see it every day. Or you can try combining the medication with another habit you already have , such as brushing your teeth.

By the way, some pharmacies offer the service of repackaging your medicines in blister packs, even if they are usually sold in a bottle. Is it worth it to bother just for the sake of not buying and filling a pill organizer? It depends on you. But you may find labeled blister packs a little more fun. As one Reddit user put it , “Great, advent calendar for my depression.”
