Everyone Can Finally Play PS5 at 1440p
If you have an Elden Ring or Stray round on your calendar this morning, it’s time to reschedule it. Your PS5 has a new update that needs to be downloaded and installed. Luckily, it’s worth it, especially if you have a 1440p monitor. On Wednesday, September 7th, Sony released System Software 6.0 to PS5 owners. The update brings quite a few fun new features and changes to your PlayStation, but the highlight is undoubtedly 1440p support.
The popularity of 1440p games is on the rise in general . It offers a higher resolution than 1080p, but is less demanding on graphics than 4K games. The PS5 is, of course, more than capable of 4K playback and is not a modular system (everyone has the same hardware), but if you have a 1440p monitor , this upgrade allows you to output source code to that display while offering pixel resolution. perfect gaming experience.
The caveat is that games must support 1440p to be played at this resolution. If the game does not support 1440p, your PS5 will take its 4K resolution and scale it down to match the 1440p resolution you selected. However, now that this feature is publicly available, it’s likely that more and more developers will add 1440p support to their games.
Another thing to keep in mind is that variable refresh rate is not available when you select 1440p. VRR is still tied to 1080p or 4K, so if you prefer it, you’ll need to stick with those existing resolution options.
This isn’t the first time gamers have had the option to play at 1440p on the PS5 , as Sony has been testing the feature as part of the PlayStation closed beta. If you’ve signed up for the beta in the past, you may have already tried 1440p.
