A Guide to Child Culture for Adults Out of Touch With Reality: Who Is the Corn Baby?
Sometimes the storm and onslaught of a dying republic is drowned out by purity and light. This week our momentary respite from despair is given by Corn Kid, a kid who loves corn so much it could save the world.
What happened to Korn Kid?
An internet legend was born this week: Korn the Kid. This adorable little corn lover’s unbridled enthusiasm is the most important thing on earth this week, and he’s sure to join unforgettable internet celebrities and memes like keyboard cat, plating, and pouring ice water over your head. because of something about some illness.
Korn Kid’s rise to superstardom started with this video , which was remixed to this amazing TikTok song, this amazing dance , Korn Kid memes and more.
I’m trying to figure out why this particular kid has captured everyone’s heart – after all, there are millions of videos of enthusiastic adorable kids – but I can’t figure out what unfathomable life force makes this video so powerful. makes people happy better than others. I’m just glad he’s there and that I can still feel something like joy. The kid just loves corn.
This week’s online warnings
Since everything on the internet except “The Corn Kid” is terrible, here is part 5361 of my 83,220 part series: “Don’t do what you saw on the internet.”
- Don’t pester a whale for clicks, views, subscriptions, likes, or anything else.
- Don’t terrorize your kids with fake ghosts.
- Do not use defective solariums . Actually, don’t use any tanning beds.
- Don’t give up birth control just because an online “healer” tells you to.
- Don’t light your holes. ”
JK Rowling takes aim at online critics
Also, don’t write a 1000-word novel in response to people who are mad at you online. And don’t tell people you didn’t write this because we can all read. That advice is, of course, directed to Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, whose new book , Ink Black Heart, came out this week.
The sixth installment in the Cormoran Strike series (I was surprised to find out it was a thing), The Ink Black Heart tells the story of a popular artist who was found dead after becoming the enemy of the waking, constantly online people with conflicting opinions. Just like Rowling has come under fire for her own tweets about transgender people online.
This is the kind of own goal that just makes you shake your head. She could have just kept writing books about elves and spaceships and all the other crap that the Harry Potter books are about, but she did it instead. She can eat as much corn as she wants.
Is everyone at work cops or friends?
In this TikTok @nikolai_novikov advises dividing everyone at work into two categories: cop or friend. The idea, I think, is to distrust everyone at work until they show up. This is a good start, but not enough. Luckily, the comments section of the video is full of people offering tips on how to spot a cop, including co-workers getting mad at other workers for going to the restroom, and the biggest cop story of all about playing golf. .
Watching young people publicly experience the meaningless world of employment and try to find meaning in it is fascinating… I think because I remember my first “real” job (with an insurance company or something) and how aloof and surreal it was spend money. pieces of my life around people with whom I absolutely could not have anything to do. I don’t remember particularly caring if someone was a “cop” or a “friend” because I was too busy trying to make time go faster and planning my escape. ( thanks to DailyDot for the find)
Viral video of the week: Viral videos that are really good
This week ‘s viral video is all about viral videos. It’s completely recursive, man. In it , YouTuber LazarLazar spends eight minutes demonstrating the most popular viral videos of the past month. Despite the title, most of the viral videos here are n’t really great, but I’m including this clip as an example of the online entertainment genre where the host reacts to someone else’s content, creating the overall effect of watching bad TV with a buddy.
While I don’t find this YouTuber interesting, insightful, or funny – he’s an annoying goon with an annoying accent who makes obvious comments on boring videos – I’m clearly not the target audience here. LazarLazar is extremely popular, so there is something here that appeals to young people; I’m just confused as to what it is. In any case, watch the video and try to figure it out. Or better yet, check out my current favorite YouTuber, Look Mum No Computer , if you like videos about repurposing legacy technology and can’t get enough oscillators in your life.
