A Bundle of Oat Milk and Coffee Drinks Is Part of a Major Recall.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Friday that food company Lyons Magnus has voluntarily recalled 53 drinks due to possible microbial contamination. Products subject to the recall include liquid coffee drinks, protein shakes, nutritional shakes and thickened liquids, and children’s nutritional supplements. These beverages and supplements are sold under popular national brand names including Aloha, Glucerna, Oatly, Premier Protein and Stumptown. Potential contamination includes the microorganism Cronobacter sakazakii . According to the CDC , a Cronobacter infection can be very serious in older adults and people whose bodies are bad at fighting germs, such as people with HIV, organ transplants, or cancer. The FDA says that while this kind of infection is rare, common symptoms of the disease can include fever, vomiting, and a urinary tract infection.
While pediatric products are included in the list, none of the recalled products in the Lyons Magnus ad are intended for infants, that is, under 1 year of age. at the center of another powdered infant formula recall (which is still ongoing, according to CNN ).
To date, no diseases or complaints related to these products have been reported. However, the FDA says none of these recalled products should be consumed.
