What Are the Most Underrated Fast Food Menu Items?

Last week I had a Taco Bell for the first time in my life. I know, I know. It’s not that I didn’t want to try Taco Bell. In fact, I’d say the hype had gone so high that I couldn’t lose my Taco Bell virginity in a casual way anymore. The timing has just never been right until now. But when it came to the critical moment of placing my order, I was ready. There was one menu item that stood out as the obvious choice to introduce my taste buds to Taco Bell for the first time: The Crunchwrap Supreme. And guess what? It was exactly what I expected (at best).

As with Crunchwrap Supreme, most fast food chains’ signature products are pretty obvious. If I took someone to Wendy’s for the first time, I would make sure they had Frosty. At Arby’s, they had to try curly fries. But what about each network’s most underrated menu items?

I want to hear what fast food orders you like, but your friends would be surprised to know they’re on the menu at all. Chili Wendy should be the institution’s crowning achievement, but I feel like I’m constantly raising awareness of its mere existence. Or think of the amazing quality of Subway cookies, which is too often underestimated. In recent years, the excellence of McDonald’s coffee has become common knowledge, but there are still some latecomers from the “America is on the run from Dunkin” camp.

I ask you, experienced readers of Lifehacker, to share in the comments which fast food dishes are tragically underestimated. I will then compile your answers into a separate post so that your wisdom and secrets can reach (and keep!) a wider audience. At the very least, I’ll go on my own elite fast food tasting tour. Having tried Taco Bell, I really think I’m on a roll.
