The Best New Reminder Features in IOS 16
While Apple Notes has become the default note-taking app for most iPhone users, the Reminders app is often overlooked . But over the past few years, Reminders has built a solid foundation with grouping, natural language input, and smart lists . With iOS 16 , Apple is adding to these features by making Reminders easier to use, fixing some long-standing issues, and making it easier to find the features you use most.
Pin lists to the top
If you use reminders a lot, your biggest problem might be finding the list you’ve made. A new update in iOS 16 now lets you pin any list to the top section (where previously you could only find the default categories). Swipe right on any list and tap “Pin” to add the list to the top. You can also go to the Edit section to remove lists you rarely use (such as Starred) to make room for your own lists.
View all completed tasks together in a smart list
There’s a new smart list in town and it’s called Completed. You will find it in the top list and it will show you a list of all completed tasks from all your lists.
Use rich text in your notes
The Notes section of Reminders now has a rich text feature, which means you can quickly convert text to bold, underline, or strikethrough. You will also be able to create markers in the notes section.
Save and reuse templates
You’ll find plenty of templates online for apps like Notion, and now you can do something similar for your reminder lists: once you’ve created a list, you can turn it into a template. This feature will help you reuse your basic settings for different routines and will allow you to publish your template using a unique link. Press the ” Menu ” button and select ” Save as Template ” to get started.
Organize your schedule for morning, afternoon and evening
New reminder updates break down tasks by date and time. So when you open the Today list, you will see different sections for Morning, Afternoon, and Tonight. The “Planned” list is broken down into days and months for long-term planning.
You can include today’s items in the badge
The Reminders app had a strange quirk that Apple is fixing with Settings. By default, reminders don’t include items due today in the notification badge count because they aren’t “overdue” to Apple. But if you’re using to-do list apps to stay on top of your day-to-day tasks, the lack of an icon counter can hinder your productivity. You can now fix this by going to Settings > Reminders > Enable Day Today .
