Finally, an Easier Way to Use Google Password Manager on Android
Google Password Manager is a comprehensive password management service for your Google account, but actually managing your manager can be a little tricky. It doesn’t have a specific app or extension (as password managers like 1Password or Bitwarden usually do), but it’s closely related to all Google products.
The passwords you save in Google Chrome are saved there. The same goes for passwords saved on your Android, where Google Password Manager arguably plays the biggest role by allowing you to save and autofill passwords from Chrome on your phone.
The Google password manager can be managed through a website where you view, copy or edit logins, and an applet is available on Android through Google Play Services. The applet is much better than the website, at least because it integrates directly with built-in Android features like biometric unlock, which means copying passwords doesn’t require you to sign in to your Google account every time. Just a face scan or a fingerprint scan will do the trick.
Problem? It’s not always easy to get to the Password Manager. Even if you ask Google Assistant for help, it will open a website instead of an applet. There’s a roundabout way to get there via the Settings app – you need to go to Privacy > Autofill from Google > Passwords . That’s four touches too many.
A new Google Play system update has made it easier to open the Password Manager app on Android smartphones and tablets. First, open the Play Store app and make sure Google Play Services is up to date (you must have version 22.18 or later).
Then go to ” Settings ” > ” Privacy ” > “Autofill Service by Google ” > ” Passwords ” to open the password manager. You will now see a new option on this page. Enable the ” Add shortcut to home screen ” option. This will open a new menu and you can drag the shortcut anywhere on the lock screen.
Once this is done, you can click on the ” Passwords ” shortcut at any time to open the Password Manager, which will give you instant access to all your saved logins.
