What’s New on Netflix in July 2022

Will the big summer blockbuster be able to successfully air on streaming services, or has hope died upon arrival? The devout theatergoer in me says the epic car chase will never be the same on a laptop screen, but if there’s a movie that will test my skepticism, it looks like The Gray Man will.

The spy thriller is Netflix’s most expensive movie to date , with the film’s stars calling it “the biggest action movie” they’ve ever seen. Ryan Gosling plays the titular Gray Man alongside Chris Evans and Ana de Armas. Directed by the Russo brothers, I hope this film will satisfy the same itch that usually draws me to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And with the Gray Man following CIA mercenaries rather than superheroes, this movie seems… somehow smarter? Higher brow? Marvel fans can argue with me in the comments. Regardless, this is an excuse to add some more buttery popcorn.
