What’s New on Disney+ in June 2022
There’s a lot to criticize about how Marvel films have changed the cinematic landscape and hastened the demise of mid-budget adult drama at the box office (but don’t take my word for it; just ask Martin Scorsese ), but I do. See how Disney is capitalizing on the success of the franchise by launching movies and TV shows that would never have hit the screens ten years ago. I mean a high-profile, action-packed series about a Pakistani-American Muslim superhero?
That said, that’s exactly what we’re getting in Ms. Marvel (June 8) , based on the award-winning comic that introduced the most popular new Marvel hero in years. Newcomer Iman Vellani plays the title character, née Kamala Kahn, a New Jersey teenage girl who grew up idolizing the Avengers in a superhero-shaped society who suddenly finds herself endowed with fantastic powers of her own. The show seems to have altered her origins a bit (probably to tie in with previous films or to create the 2023 movie Marvels , which would feature Kamala alongside Captain Marvel and Monica Rambo), but retained the main aspects of the character – mostly her lovable nerd. and the fandom are intact.
Also coming to Disney in June are the final episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi (ending on June 22), the third season of House of the Owl (June 29), and every episode of Horisma (June 1). All this and more:
