Use This Shortcut to Remove Water From Your IPhone

Your iPhone is water resistant, and its IP68 rating means it can withstand swimming up to six meters deep for 30 minutes and you should be fine. In theory. (This doesn’t mean you should use your phone as an underwater camera; if water gets inside, you’ll still end up paying a huge repair bill or getting stuck with your phone in a brick.) But even if it does end up surviving throw in a drink, when you first fish it out, there may be some moisture left in the speakers and speaker. This is bad news for the longevity of your device and will degrade audio quality in the short term.

Apple has already addressed this issue with the Apple Watch, with a setting that will play a series of tones at a specific frequency that causes water that has entered the wearable’s speakers to erupt. The iOS Shortcut community has taken up this idea and created an Eject Water shortcut for your iPhone that does something similar. Here’s how to set it up.

How to remove water from your iPhone speaker

Look for a label called “Water Extraction” on this Label Gallery website . Once there, click the Get Shortcut button, which will open the Shortcuts app. Tap the ” Add Shortcut ” option.

If your iPhone gives you a warning that the shortcut can’t be installed, it might be a permissions issue. To resolve this issue, go to Settings > Shortcuts > Allow Untrusted Shortcuts.

Once a shortcut is installed, you can activate it in several ways. Open the Shortcuts app and tap on a shortcut, then tap on the ” Start water flush ” button at the top of the screen.

Your iPhone will play a beep for 10-15 seconds, after which you will see a notification that water has been removed from your speaker.

Optionally, you can add this shortcut to your home screen, widget, or activate it with Siri. Just say “Hey Siri, throw away the water” and you’ll be fine.
