How to Install Xbox Game Pass Games to a Custom Folder on Your PC

Using Xbox Game Pass on PC is great, but with some caveats. The Xbox app does not allow you to install games to a custom folder on your computer; by default, you can only choose which drive to install games on. If you want things to be more organized, there are ways around this limitation.

But before you can install your Game Pass games into the custom directory, you’ll need to install the beta version of the Xbox app. This feature may appear in a stable build in the future, but as of this writing, beta is your only recourse. Fair warning: Installing beta versions can make the app unstable. You may encounter more errors or app crashes than usual. This particular beta didn’t give us any problems, but it’s best to be aware of the risks before proceeding.

You can update the Xbox app beta by installing the Xbox Insider Hub on your computer.

Once the application is installed, click the Preview tab in the left pane. You can then select Windows Gaming from the right pane, which is under the Available section.

When the Windows Gaming preview page opens, click Join . The button will change to Wait for the process to complete, and when it is done, it will change to Control . After that, close the Xbox Insider Hub.

Open the Microsoft Store on your computer and click the Library tab in the left pane. Wait a few seconds and you will see Game Services in the right pane. It will install automatically so you don’t have to do anything but wait.

Now that the game services are installed, restart the Xbox app. Click the profile icon in the top bar next to the minimize button and select Settings .

In the Xbox app settings, select the General tab in the left pane. In the right pane, scroll down to the Game Install Options section. You can enable Use advanced installation and management features to install games to any folder you like.

If this setting is enabled, select the drop-down menu under “Change where this app installs games by default” . Now you can select any drive on your computer. When it’s done, click the ” Change Folder ” button in the box below the drive selection drop-down menu. Now you can go to any folder on your computer and install your games wherever you want.
