The 25 Most Rewatched Movies Ever Made
Without a doubt, we live in an age of media glut. Even after COVID (laughs), the industry is still releasing new movies and new streaming services to host them at an alarming rate – and those same services mean we also have easy access to thousands of films from the last century. I don’t need to watch the movie again! And yet, here I am re-watching Back to the Future .
Because sometimes you just need a certain amount, and some movies seem to be made to be watched over and over again. The criteria for films that can be re-watched vary, but there are some commonalities: they tend to consist of a few catchy sets – scenes that stand out and grab our attention even when the movie is just playing in the background, be it a musical number, a sequence of actions or even a strong emotional rhythm. They should also lead to a satisfactory conclusion – it helps if it’s uplifting, although it doesn’t have to be; a decent catharsis will do (remember the ending of The Shawshank Redemption ). Of course, it’s also a matter of taste (I’ll rewatch Citizen Kane just as willingly as I do Charlie’s Angels ), and nostalgia never hurts. Do we watch movies because they are great? Or do we enjoy them because they come at just the right moment in our lives? Despite this personal variability, the following films are definitely worth watching more than once. Or twice. Or…
