What’s New on Disney+ in February 2022
Two days ago, Disney released the trailer for Moon Knight , the next in a lineup of streaming series set in the ever-expanding frontiers of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The show, starring Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke, looks intriguing, offering a darker edge than much of the post-Netflix MCU TV era. Unfortunately, it won’t premiere until March 30th, which means you’ll have to go through a month without a new superhero show.
You and Disney+ both – for the past year, the streamer has kept pop culture hooked on a constant stream of designated TV, from The Mandalorian to Boba Fett’s Book , to WandaVision, Loki and Hawkeye . And while the content (because that’s what the material is in the first place) is usually better than decent, the strategy for deploying it was nearly flawless; rarely more than a few weeks go by without a new episode related to one of these mega-franchises appearing on our smart TVs and embedding itself in trending Twitter threads. While the gap between the end of The Book of Boba Fett on February 9 and the launch of Moon Knight on March 30 is just a short pause in a grand scheme of all-consuming intellectual property, it shows just how dependent Disney+ is on these brands. Because without them, the most he can advertise in February is the revival of a 20-year-old animated series. Proud Family: Louder and Proud (February 23) is a varied cartoon sitcom that follows African-American teenager Penny Proud and her family as they go about their daily lives. It picks up where the original series left off, which ended in 2005, but also sounds very similar to 2022: returning producer Ralph Farquhar promises he’ll highlight issues of race and identity (the new characters include a family headed by parents- gays). . “A lot has changed in 20 years,” he said at a TCA panel last week . “Before, we had to walk on tiptoe and use a coded language. Now we can get straight to the point.”
Other than that, the only thing you’re really getting for your subscription dollars this month is the streaming debut of Loose Guy , the 2021 box office super meta hit that stars Ryan Reynolds as a hard working worker who finds out he’s a supporting character. into a video game and decides to take control of his own destiny. The well -reviewed action comedy will hit the service on February 23rd. Here’s everything else coming to Disney+ in February.
