Bringing a Bag of Cheeseburgers Is the Best Party Trick

When it comes to lunch, it’s hard to beat church dinner, especially if you’re in the South or Midwest. Casseroles, all kinds of fried foods, fruity whipped salads, and whole tables dedicated to desserts – everyone brings their own A game and everyone goes home full and happy.

It has been many years since I attended an ordinary church dinner, and every year it gets harder and harder to remember the dinners of my youth. But I will never forget Bubba MacArthur and his bag of cheeseburgers.

Every time my grandparents had a dinner at church, Bubba, who was my favorite Sunday school teacher for unrelated reasons, would come with a bag of McDonald’s cheeseburgers and silently tossed them on the table. Even with all the rest of the food, they’ll be gone within an hour. Some people ate a cheeseburger for the rest of their meal, and some took one home for later, but everyone was fascinated. This is an iconic move and can be added to your party / party trick bag.

Imagine: you are at a party, drinking all night, snacking on Crudités and hummus, and there is a legend walking along the way with a package of cheeseburgers. How much would you love this person? I personally will have a lot of love for them, and this love will only grow as the evening goes on and the booze continues to pour.

Nobody ever gets mad at a bag of cheeseburgers, and most of them love it. Cheeseburgers are high in protein, fat and carbohydrates, making them perfect for parties. (If your partymates are likely to get mad at the beef part of the burger, you can always bring an Impossible Whoppers pack.)

You don’t have to buy McDonald’s, but I have found that simple instant burgers work best. McDonald’s cheeseburgers also heat up very well – just put them in the microwave for 40 seconds – and your guests can take them with them and enjoy them after the party in the comfort of their homes. (If a cheeseburger isn’t party-friendly, I don’t know what it is.)
