Always Keep the Old Scoop of Protein

This one goes to all athletes with a giant jug of protein powder in their basket. Supplements that come in jugs are usually measured with a measuring spoon, and for convenience, they include a measuring spoon in each package. Where ? Usually downstairs.

Some of us are smart and knew almost immediately what to do about it. The other of us – including, ahem, none of you that you know (but yes, that’s me) – took the time to figure it out. Just a year or two ago it occurred to me that I didn’t need to use the scoop that comes with the new pitcher. Because I already had it. From an old jug.

The only slight caveat here is that you have to make sure the new and old scoops are the same size. Look at the nutritional label that says something like “Serving Size: 1 Scoop (30 g)”. If it’s the same brand as your old powder and the label is the same, the measuring spoon should still work. If you’re unsure, take a kitchen scale and weigh a spoonful of the powder.

Now you don’t have to worry about whether the scoop is at the bottom, or somewhere in the middle, or perhaps just below the surface. Just start scooping up with your perfect old scoop. When you choose a new one – maybe after a few weeks – you can decide which paddle you want to continue with. Leave the other in the kitchen drawer as a spare.

Keeping a good scoop is good too, because sometimes bastards change the design of the scoop . I used to get perfect scoops with my unflavored whey until one day they switched to a scoop with the handle in the middle instead of at the top. I don’t know what this monster came up with, but now a small mountain of powder is forming on the handle, which leads to inevitable scattering when you go to throw the powder into your drink. Of course, I threw away the old scoop when I found a new one, and I will forever regret this day. Save the good scoops, okay?
