What Non-Horror Films Traumatized You As a Child?

If you frequent (or sigh) cinemas, you have no doubt run into them: irresponsible parents who choose to take their too young children to a decidedly grown-up movie instead of paying a nanny. My favorite example of this is when I sat next to a couple of 5-year-olds during their premiere of The Cage, a 2000 serial killer thriller in which Vincent D’onofrio is surgically implanted with hooks in his back so that he can masturbate while hanging over the bodies of their victims. Hope they got it over with in the end.

I can smugly say that this is never normal – which is why I have only watched a few films in theaters every year in the ten years since I became a parent – while admitting that you never know what is really actually injures the child. … For example, the time when we had to turn off Jim Henson’s Labyrinth – supposedly a film for children – not because the goblins scared my child, and not because of the funny feelings caused by David Bowie’s tight pants, but because Jennifer Connelly’s character is not wanted “. Take her crying little brother. Kids are weird, my point. As a kid from the 80s , a very different era in parenting, I’ve watched a lot of films on the way too young (for example, I’ve seen RoboCop 2, in which a child dressed as prostitutes swears, runs a drug empire. and later he was brutally shot by a robot in the theater with my mom and dad ). But obviously I shouldn’t have shown these films. What I’m more interested in is the scenes that stayed with me – due to trauma – despite the fact that the films in which they are shot were either intended for children or seem harmless. The main culprit for me and, I am sure, for many others is the slow surrender of the noble horse Artax to the Swamps of Sorrow in 1984 ‘s The Endless Story . The moment is still strong as an adult . As a child, it upset me a lot, so I ask you: What films or TV shows traumatized you as a child? Giving you nightmares, keeping you awake, or supporting an educational therapy session decades later? Share in the comments and I’ll collect the most offensive responses in the next post later this week.

Edited because I forgot which guy named Vince played the killer in The Cage.
