Download the Latest Security Update for Your IPhone As Soon As Possible
When you know there aren’t many new features, it can be all too easy to ignore software update notifications in favor of literally anything else. However, we are here to implore you to update this latest version as the latest Apple software is essential to keep your iPhone and iPad safe.
On Monday, October 11, Apple released iOS 15.0.2 and iPadOS 15.0.2 for compatible iPhones and iPads. After all, no major update has a “0.2” add-on; such a small number means that the update itself is intended to fix small bugs that users may or may not have encountered since the last update.
However, Apple later confirmed that this new update was much more significant than its name suggests. While there are no new emojis, and we don’t see SharePlay finally debuting in iOS 15, 15.0.2 provides a critical security patch for iPhone and iPad.
iOS and iPadOS 15.0.1 Let Someone Hack Your Device’s Security
Apple claims it has become aware of a zero-day exploit in iOS and iPadOS that could allow attackers to use an application to run arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Thus, it will allow someone to gain access to parts of your iPhone and iPad that normally no one should have access to, potentially exposing your device to malicious activity. Apple says it is possible that this security vulnerability has already been exploited, making it even more urgent to apply the patch to your device.
Which iPhones and iPads are compatible with 15.0.2?
All iPhones and iPads that are compatible with iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 can be upgraded to 15.0.2. This includes iPhone 6s and later, iPad Pro (all models), iPad Air 2 and later, iPad 5th generation and later, iPad mini 4 and later, and iPod touch (7th generation). However, if your device is too old to run iOS 15, keep checking for software updates; If Apple finds that this security vulnerability affects iOS 12 devices, it will release a dedicated patch.
Interestingly, it looks like Apple hasn’t released a patch for iOS 14.8. The company is allowing iPhones and iPads to stay on the latest version of iOS 14 while retaining access to all future security fixes. Since devices running iOS 14.8 did not receive this patch, it is logical to assume that the vulnerability only affects devices running 15.0 or 15.0.1. However, if you’re using iOS 14.8, stay tuned for any security fixes if Apple releases them.
How to install iOS and iPadOS 15.0.2 on your iPhone or iPad
Apple makes it easy to update your iPhone or iPad to the latest software: just open the Settings app, then go to General> Software Update . From here, allow iOS or iPadOS to check for the latest updates; as soon as version 15.0.2 arrives, simply follow the onscreen instructions to download and install the update to your device.
