How to Decorate an Attic When You Are Trying to Sell Your Home
When your home is up for sale, there is a lot to think about, including how to decorate it. Perhaps your home is already perfectly organized, decorated in neutral colors, and devoid of any personal photographs. But for everyone else, decorating a home is a job.
Between the kitchen, living room, hallways, bathrooms and bedrooms, you will probably have more than enough work to do. But what about the attic? Would potential buyers just think this is an unfinished mess filled with dusty boxes? Or will they expect something more? Rhonda Kaisen of the New York Times has several answers. Here’s what you need to know.

Above all, Kaisen advises not to waste time and money on any major projects to equip an unfinished attic, and instead focus on making the ground floor a place where an outsider wants to live.
“The point of staging is to make the buyer go in and completely fall in love with the space and feel that ‘I will trade what I have now for something better,’” says Donna Dazzo , owner of a house staging and renovation company. … Created for circulation, reports the New York Times . “This is where your dollars should go because you need to evoke that feeling.”
But, if you’re happy with the rest of the house and have some money to spare , Kaizen has a few ideas to help your unfinished attic look more sophisticated. For example, if you have a large open space, you can put some yoga mats, an exercise ball, and some dumbbells. Or lay sheets and a duvet on an air mattress and create a makeshift bedroom, or a table and window chair for an office.
If you really want to get creative, you can paint the walls, ceiling and floor white and then add some furniture and decor. The idea, according to Dazzo, is to give the buyer an idea of how they can use the space.
