How to Watch the 2021 Tony Awards and What You Need to Know About This Year’s Show
Over the past few weeks, Broadway shows have been slowly returning to the stage after darkening in theaters since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. Along with plays and musicals, the 2020 Tony Awards have been canceled (multiple times).
But the 2019-2020 season has not been forgotten – the accolades are just a year behind. The 74th annual Tony Live Theater Awards will resume on Sunday 26 September. And like everything else in this year’s awards, Tonys’s 2021 view will be slightly different too. Here’s how to earn awards and (most importantly) performances.
How to watch the 2021 Tony Awards
The 2021 Tony Awards, celebrating the achievements of the 2019-2020 Broadway season, will take place on Sunday, September 26 at 7:00 pm ET. This year’s show will be split into two parts: an awards ceremony and live performances.
Unusually, the awards ceremony will be streamed exclusively on Paramount + . Like most streaming services, they have a seven-day free trial that you can use (if you haven’t already). The second part of the evening is “The Tony Awards Present: Broadway’s Back!” – Starts at 9:00 PM ET. It will be available to stream on Paramount +, but this time it will also air on CBS, which means people with cable or TV antenna or access to Hulu from Live TV , YouTube TV , DirectTV Now, or fuboTV can tune in. also.
Who will be at the 2021 Tony Awards?
The awards ceremony will be hosted by six-time award-winning Tony Audra McDonald at 7:00 pm ET and will take place live at the Winter Garden Theater in New York City. Next, Leslie Odom Jr., who won a Tony Award for her portrayal of Aaron Burr in Hamilton, will host the live portion of the evening, which begins at 9:00 pm ET.
