What’s Coming to Disney + in October 2021
I am afraid that modern children do not appreciate dolls as they should, and I am very sad.
My daughter is 9 years old, and while she didn’t really grow up on Sesame Street , I raised her and her little brother to respect these pastimes of the past properly; in this house we celebrate every doll movie, from the Muppet movie to the Most Wanted Dolls. Yet her friends seem indifferent – if not shockingly ignorant – to the legendary history of this 65-year-old franchise. When he had the opportunity to watch the 2011 Muppets during a sleepover, one child called the dolls “boring.” Another shockingly called Kermit (whose name she did not know) “a frog with thorns around its neck and demon eyes.” Such blasphemy – and yet can I blame her? Although Disney has spent over a decade trying to wrest control of the dolls from the company founded by their creator Jim Henson (tense negotiations that Frank Oz, veteran Muppeteer and Miss Piggy’s voice, believes contributed to the untimely death of the creative genius ), when it finally succeeded in In 2004, the Mouse didn’t seem to know what to do with them. The above attempt to revive the franchise film in 2011 was promising, even if the Muppets seemed a bit confused because of the fact that a film about the Muppets on The Muppet should focus instead on problems in human relations, played by co-writer Jason Segel. Surely the songs (from the people behind the brilliant musical comedy series Flight of the Concords ) were great. But the public looked pretty much indifferent, and the 2014 Muppets Most Wanted (much better, more Muppets) performed significantly less. An attempt to combine puppets with The Office’s comedic sensibility in 2015 resulted in a horribly mispriced NBC sitcom that lasted just that long. one season. The launch of Disney + was accompanied by the announcement of a new series, Muppet TV, which was abruptly canceled before one episode was filmed . There has been a symbolic attempt to introduce the little ones to their favorite characters through the Disney version of Muppet Babies, but she is nowhere near as strange, adorable or unique doll as the original of the 80s, which Disney seems to have absolutely no interest in. licensing . At least they’ve finally put the classic ’70s Muppets into a streaming service – although it puzzles me that they didn’t try to launch a modern sequel (possibly burned away by the Muppets Tonight reception, criminal a short-lived attempt at a mid-90s reboot). This is all a very long way of saying that I am at least slightly encouraged by the fact that the only thing Disney + did for this in October was only a significant Disney + Original of note, this whole month is a new Muppet movie. even if it is used to sell the attraction of a Disney theme park. The Haunted Muppet Mansion (October 8), directed by Kirk Thatcher, co-writer of Muppet Treasure Island and director of The Wizard of Oz , sends daredevil Gonzo to the title building for a night of horror. Don’t get me wrong, this creepy treat looks like it’s in the spirit of dolls and the season. No, he probably won’t reach the heyday of dolls. But at least Disney has made an effort to keep these characters alive, you know?
Indeed, a demonic frog. That’s all for the rest at Disney + in October. Prepare to be disappointed: for the first time in a long time, there won’t be a new Marvel or Star Wars show on sale , although as the commentator kindly reminded me, if you don’t pay the extra $ 30 for Black Widow , you can watch it for free on October 6th.
