How to Download HBO Max Movies and Shows to Your Tablet and Smartphone
When traveling abroad (remember?), Some streaming platforms limit what you can watch, and even whether you can access your account at all. Downloading movies and episodes of your favorite shows is an easy way to have fun on the go, or if you don’t have Wi-Fi or a data connection, to stream to your device.
If you’re a premium HBO Max subscriber, meaning you pay for the ad-free plan, you can download most of the movies and shows on the platform for offline viewing. Here’s how to do it.
How to Download HBO Max TV Shows and Movies
First, you need the HBO Max app for your mobile device. You must also be signed in to your HBO Max account and connected to Wi-Fi (although you can turn on cellular data downloads in Settings> Video Options ).
Find the movie or episode you want to watch offline and click the Download icon. If you want to watch in a language other than the default language, be sure to select it before starting the download. To change the video quality — for example, to speed up downloads or save space on your device — go to Settings> Video Options> Download Quality and select Fastest Download. Sorry, no downloads for PC are available.
How to watch your HBO Max downloads
To find your downloaded movies and shows, go to Profile> Downloads and just click the Play icon when you’re ready to watch. HBO Max limits you to 30 downloads at a time on all devices that are signed in to your account, and you can only have five copies of the same movie or show between profiles and devices.
Downloaded movies and shows expire after 30 days if not watched, or 48 hours after clicking the Play button. Downloads also expire if and when content leaves HBO Max. You can resume expired downloads by going to your Profile> Downloads>! > Refresh .
