Our Top Tips for Packing Your Suitcase
When we all get back from there and travel again, we may have forgotten how to properly fit all our belongings into a suitcase. If you can’t remember what to fold and what to fold (or how much underwear you need for a long weekend), check out our top packing tips.
First, choose a suitable container for your clothes. Duffles and bags can be lightweight, but due to their soft structure, they are difficult to keep to the specified size. Don’t overload your duffel bag and find it is too large to fit in the luggage compartment, so take a suitcase with hard sides. Since nothing can stick out, it will always match the size set by the FAA.
To maximize your clothing space, roll up any lightweight clothing such as T-shirts, shorts, and underwear. Stuff the folded clothing around the perimeter of the suitcase and use it to fill in any gaps. Stuff the shoes with socks to keep them in shape, and place the heels to the toes against the base of the suitcase. While you’re there, add any heavy items like books next to the wheels to maximize stability. The weight directed towards the wheels makes the suitcase easier to roll and less wobbly.
To ensure you don’t forget about important toiletries, keep your kit in its packaging and store it all year round. Just drop it in your suitcase when needed and make sure the toiletry bag is easily accessible in case the TSA wants to inspect it.
Finally, remember to wear your heaviest clothing so that it doesn’t take up extra space in your bag. For all of these tips and more, watch the video above.
