How to Get Started With Alexa Using Different Phrases

Customizable routines are one of the most convenient features of Amazon Echo – you can use them to trigger a cascade of home automation actions before bed, or to play specific media every morning – all in response to a single request. And now Alexa can respond with up to seven unique phrases in one procedure (instead of one), so you can start the same series of actions, whether you say “Alexa, good night”, “Alexa, it’s time to sleep” or “Alexa, go to to hell. ” sleep ”, etc. You can also use wording that is completely unrelated to the real daily routine – Alexa does not know the difference.

To customize your own phrases, open the Alexa app, go to the More menu , and select the procedure you want to edit. In the ” When ” section, you will see the option to view or edit trigger phrases. Tap that and on the next screen, enter the wording you want to use – don’t enter “Alexa” separately as it is automatically added to every custom phrase.

After you have saved your own phrases, it is recommended that you test each one to make sure that all steps in the procedure start correctly.

This is probably not the kind of feature you want on its own, especially if the phrases your custom routines are already running are simple and specific. However, programming multiple phrases can be helpful if your children find it easier to memorize certain words, or if you just want to have fun with incomprehensible or absurd phrases.

In addition, Alexa supports multiple languages and can automatically switch between them. (You can enable up to two at a time, such as English plus Spanish.) So if you and your family are multilingual or want to practice speaking a different language, you can set up trigger phrases for each of your custom routines in both of the included languages.
