How to Take Part in the Global Running Day Because Racing Is Still Nothing Special
Today is Global Running Day , a worldwide event designed to celebrate running and get more people to move. All official events are virtual this year, so here’s a rundown of the different ways to get involved. Some of them are for today only, while others give you the opportunity to participate anytime this week.
NYRR 1M Virtual Global Running Day
The main event is a free virtual race hosted by New York’s Road Runners Club and Strava. Register on the website and enter the competition by registering one mile in the app, making it public and marking it as a race. You must run a mile between June 1-6, 2021 for it to “count”.
World river
From 2 to 5 June (World Environment Day), you can devote your run on the river. Register online and you will receive a virtual race bib and certificate of completion. The idea is to publish your jog and river information on the Internet to “celebrate the beauty and value of our rivers.”
World 5K Running Day with Meb Keflesigi
This virtual race aims to be as close as possible to a live event with people running around the world. This happens at a specific time – from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm ET (website says EST, but daylight saving time is in effect, it should definitely be EDT ).Sign up on the website and you will be able to access a live stream featuring marathon legend Meb Keflesigi and podcaster Ali Feller on the run, available through the Charge app.
Lululemon Global Running Day Challenge Competition
Want something less like a race? Lululemon sponsors the Strava Challenge, which requires you to do nothing more than sign up for runs, walks, or wheelchair activities that last at least 10 minutes. Sign up for it here .
Get a discount on a future race
If you are eyeing a specific race you would like to host in the future, today is a great time to see if they have a flash sale. The Rock N Roll Series are offering discounts of up to $ 35 on registrations for the competition , but the sale will only last until midnight PST tonight.
