How to Use Each New Feature in IOS 14.6
Apple iOS 14.6 and iPadOS 14.6 were released this week, adding several new features to iPhones and iPads, including new voice control, enhanced tracking features for AirTags, family options for Apple card payments, and of course, many bug fixes.
Here’s a quick overview of all the new features in iOS / iPadOS 14.6 and how to use them – and don’t forget that you can install a software update in Settings> General> Software Update.
Unlock the screen with your voice
Users can unlock their iPhone screen with a voice command after restarting the device. The new accessibility feature is available to all users with voice commands enabled. To enable voice control:
- Go to Settings> Accessibility> Voice Control.
- Click Set Up Voice Control. iOS will download the required files in the background. When this is done, you will see a microphone icon on the screen indicating that voice control is on.
- You can also view voice commands and edit or create your own in Settings> Accessibility> Voice Control> Customize Commands.
Features of spending Apple Card Family Group
Apple Card can now be used with five other accounts in your family group. Users must be at least 13 years old to use Apple Card payment cards. Along with the family sharing option, users can track spending and set spending limits and other restrictions.
You will find all the options under Settings> [username]> Family Sharing.
New AirTag Tracking Features
The recently released Apple AirTags have several new features included in iOS / iPadOS 14.6, including:
- Tapping an AirTag with an NFC-enabled device (such as your iPhone or iPad) reveals the partial phone number of the AirTag owner.
- Lost Mode in Find Me now allows you to add an email address instead of a phone number.
Other new features in iOS / iPadOS 14.6
- Apple Music loses audio preparation: A new Apple Music lossless audio quality setting will hit the app around the next month, but iOS 14.6 preemptively adds audio format support to all applicable iOS and iPadOS devices.
- Paid Content Support for Apple Podcast : Podcast creators can now add additional paid content and subscriptions to their shows in the Apple Podcast app. This does not affect free content.
- Several security updates and bug fixes .
