How to Get IOS Notifications on Your Oculus Quest
Getting into virtual reality is fun, but it can also be productive: lately I’ve found it to be a pretty decent way to practice quickly. However, in order to put on a VR headset, I really have to get off my phone and skip all the shiny messages my friends are sending me – or at least it was . If you own an Oculus Quest, you can now receive all of your iPhone’s notifications sent directly to your virtual screen (and Android users will soon be able to do that too).
To get started, you need Oculus system software version 29. To test this, simply put on your headset and go to Settings> About from the main Oculus interface. Any available system updates should be obvious after your Oculus headset has finished testing them and you can download and install them directly.
(Anyway, I don’t have version 29 on my device yet, because Facebook loves to roll out these updates. Patience is also a virtual virtue.)
After receiving this update, visit the Notifications section in the settings menu of your Oculus Quest or Quest 2. There you’ll see a new option: iPhone Notifications in VR.
However, you are not finished yet. You also need to have the Oculus app installed on an iPhone newer than the 2016 iPhone 7. Finally, log into your Oculus account and enable notifications via your profile picture in the top left corner > Account Settings> Notifications . While you’re there, scroll through the many options available to customize which Oculus notifications you want to receive in VR and which ones you want to receive on your iPhone.
Your notifications will then pop up when you are in VR, and you can also view them through the new Phone section on the regular notification screen on your device.
