How to Install Android 12 Beta 1 Today
It’s time for Android 12 Beta 1 – your first chance to try out all of the exciting new changes to Google’s operating system with less chance of bumping into a nasty bug, slowing performance, or other beta-related issues on your primary wearable device. At the very least, I’m much more willing to look at the Android 12 beta than the wild west developer preview, and it’s very easy to get the beta running on your phone.
To start using your Pixel phone, simply visit this site and register your device in beta.
If you have a device from another manufacturer, check if it meets the requirements and get personalized instructions on how to get started using this link . Supported manufacturers include:
- Asus
- Oneplus
- Oppo
- Real me
- Spicy
- Tecno
- TCL
- Vivo
- Xiaomi
- ZTE
For the Pixel, for example, you’ll need to agree to the beta program from Google. However, once you’ve done that, you can perform regular system updates (via Settings> System> Advanced> System Update ) to immediately install Android 12 on your device.
As you can see, the Android 12 update takes about 1.62 GB on my device. YMMV, but be sure to allow enough time to download and install. It will take some time.
If after updating you find that you want to exit the Android 12 beta, make sure you back up everything on your device, either to the cloud or to another local location. This is because unregistering your device will require you to wipe your data and revert to the latest version of Android 11; There is no way to go from Android 12 to Android 11 and keep everything on your phone like you did when upgrading from Android 11 to Android 12. This is one of the reasons you can postpone the beta if you want to. You have no doubt about messing around with your main device at all.
It’s fun to play with the new features, including all of these new stylistic changes and privacy settings coming in Android 12. However, you might need a little more work if you find you don’t like the beta yet. But stick with it if you can – in the end, beta versions only get better.
