Why Is Your IPhone Battery Recalibrating in IOS 14.5
You should check your iPhone’s battery life regularly. And given how easy Apple made it with the launch of iOS 11.3, there’s really no excuse for us. All you have to do is tap Settings> Battery> Battery Status and you can see the maximum battery capacity of your iPhone, make sure Optimized Battery Charging is enabled to extend battery life, and check out this handy little message from Apple “you screwed up” if your battery is running low enough to start affecting your iPhone’s performance.
However, after installing iOS 14.5, you can see a new prompt:
Your battery reporting system is recalibrating for maximum capacity and maximum performance. This process can take several weeks. Learn more …
If you don’t see this message, don’t worry. It will only appear if you have an iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max, as this is Apple’s decision to fix inaccurate battery estimates for these iPhones from previous versions of iOS.
Here’s how the calibration process goes: Your device will display this message for several weeks, during which time it is possible that you will not see any low battery warnings while iOS is running. You are not pure; your device may simply not make a recommendation without a better estimate of the maximum battery capacity (and how that affects your iPhone’s performance).
Once the process is complete, you will either receive an updated maximum capacity and any warnings that may come from it, or you will see a slightly more annoying message:
Recalibration of the Battery Health Reporting System failed. An Apple Authorized Service Provider may replace the battery at no charge to restore full performance and capacity. Learn more about service options …
As Apple describes , this doesn’t mean your iPhone will explode or anything like that; rather, you can get a free battery replacement if your iPhone is still under the normal warranty, AppleCare +, or the more vague “consumer protection law.” Consider contacting Apple Support to see what options you have, if any.
Additionally, Apple notes:
You can also contact Apple Support if you previously paid for an after-warranty battery service for your iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, or iPhone 11 Pro Max after seeing a low battery message or experiencing unexpected battery behavior.
While it’s never great to have an iPhone with a dead battery, you might be in luck and get a wonderful new replacement (or some kind of refund for a replacement you’ve already paid for).
