How to Hide All Those Inappropriate Cords and Cables
Somehow in 2021, when everything is “wireless”, this is “bluetooth” and “AirPlay” and “Alexa”, there will still be wires hanging down . Your desk, media console, bedside table – and in the work-from-home era, perhaps your dining table – are overwhelmed with so many wires and dangers that you might end up with a complex root system in a rainforest.
Fortunately, there are systems and methods to deal with all the wires, cords, and plugs hanging around your outlets. Let’s start small: use some Velcro strips or gear ties to wrap around the thin dangling wires. You can just use the twisted tie from the bread bag to hold your little wires together in the warehouse, but buying a pack of gear ties allows you to color code what belongs where.
Then grab the sticky hooks. You can place them on a table back or headboard to attach chargers and wires so they don’t hang over the sides of each piece of furniture. You can also use the blind clip on your computer to hold your phone or laptop charger in place so it doesn’t fall to the floor.
Finally, for workstations with strong mains power, purchase multiple coiled tubing to hold everything in one thick feed. You can also hide the cords running along the wall or baseboard with a cover that looks like a molding. And my favorite cord trick is the rotating extension cord, which allows you to save space while still plugging in whatever short plugs you have.
