Review the Department of State’s Updated No-Travel List Before Planning Your Vaccinations.
The Department of State maintains a list of travel advisories for countries around the world. Until recently, only about 30 of them were at Level 4: Do Not Travel. Today, the update brings them to this level more, mainly due to the risk of coronavirus.
Reuters reports that the State Department plans to place about 130 countries on the Tier 4 list. The dates show that today about 60 countries have been upgraded to level 4, and a few others to level 3 (“Travel Redefinition”) and level 2 (“Be Extra Cautious”). If the Reuters report is correct, more changes should be expected.
According to the State Department statement, Reuters reports, the increase in the number of recommendations is not due to the fact that countries have become more dangerous, but rather because the State Department decided to “adjust” its ratings to accommodate the CDC estimates.
The CDC maintains its own list of COVID-19 travel advisories by country , of which about 150 countries are at level 4 (“COVID-19 is very high”).
In addition, the United States has suspended entry to the country for non-citizens who have recently traveled to China, Iran, the multinational European Schengen Area, Great Britain, Ireland, Brazil and South Africa. More information on these returns and exceptions to these rules can be found on the CDC’s International Travel page .
The CDC continues to recommend that Americans avoid international travel unless they are vaccinated . And if you do travel fully vaccinated, you should get tested for COVID three to five days after returning home.
