How to Tell If Verizon Has Recalled Your Jetpack Hotspot
If you have one of three different Ellipsis Jetpack hotspot models – the same Jetpack hotspot you would buy from Verizon to give nearby devices access to 4G connectivity – you’ll want to stop using them. Verizon is recalling nearly 2.5 million of these hotspots over concerns that their lithium-ion batteries could overheat and cause a fire (or cause a decent burn).
We are talking about three models: Ellipsis Jetpack MHS900L , MHS900LS and MHS900LPP . If you have one, you’ll want to follow these steps before sending it back to Verizon:
“If your device is turned off, turn it on so that affected Ellipsis Jetpack devices can receive wireless automatic software updates that:
- Displays the device identification number (IMEI) on its scrolling screen to help with sharing
- Do not let the device charge while it is plugged in and turned on.
You will know that a software update has been applied when you see the ID number (IMEI) scrolling across the screen of your device.
- After applying the software update, users should leave the device turned on while plugged into the power outlet.
- When the device is not in use, it should be turned off, disconnected from the power source and stored securely until you receive the packaging to safely return the Ellipsis Jetpack. “
This IMEI number is critical as this is how you can start the revocation process from Verizon by calling 855-205-2627 or visiting www.EllipsisJetpackRecall.expertinquiry.com to get started. As part of the recall, you will receive a free hotspot to replace your dangerous Ellipsis jetpacks, as well as a free return envelope to send your jetpack back to Verizon for recycling.
Verizon processed about 15 reports of overheating of jetpacks, including six reports of fire damage and two burns, as noted in the Consumer Product Safety Commission notice. That’s a pretty low number considering the number of Ellipsis jetpacks, but it’s not something you’ll want to set aside if you have one. It couldn’t be much easier to initiate a recall on your part; do not delay, otherwise you will forget.
