How to Try Out the New Siri Voices for IOS Today
Apple is changing how Siri works in iOS 14.5. She’s still the same old virtual assistant that lets you do all kinds of fun things on your iPhone. However, she is no longer going to be “she” by default. You will soon be asked to choose a female or male voice for your digital assistant, which is a subtle but important departure from the supposedly sexist practice .
Apple has also added two new Siri voices for English-speaking users, and you can try both of them right now if you don’t mind upgrading to the fairly advanced beta for iOS developers. I say this because I usually recommend that people stick with the public beta whenever possible – if they really need to install a non-working operating system on their main portable devices.
However, we are currently on version 6 of the iOS 14.5 developer beta. I’ve used it throughout many of them and I haven’t run into any problems with apps or built-in services that ruined my life. If you want to get access to some new features, give it a try. Or keep waiting for them to go into the official public beta . Your choice.
Otherwise, as I wrote earlier :
Before installing iOS 14.5 Developer Beta 2, please make a full backup of your device. Then visit Beta Profiles in Safari on iPhone. Install the iOS profile, restart your iPhone when asked, and run the software update to get the latest beta. Please note that after the official release of iOS 14.5 has been released and installed, you can remove the beta profile from your device via Settings> General> Profile .
When you launch iOS 14.5 beta 6, you will not see prompts to switch Siri to a different voice; you will only receive this message when setting up a new device. To switch anyway, just go to Settings> Siri & Search .
Find the new box that says Siri Voice. Tap it and choose a new option.
Voices 2 and 4 are female voices, and voices 1 and 3 are male voices. Once you’ve made your choice, you will need to do a bit of work, but setting up a new voice will take almost no time. To me? I walk Irish. Why not mix it up even more?
