Check Your YouTube Videos for Potential Flags With This Tool
YouTube has a copyright issue. While the AI platform’s Content ID system prevents illegal downloads of copyrighted material, it often triggers copyright infringement claims against legitimate creators, even if they did not violate YouTube policies. Fortunately, the company is adding a new Checker tool that can help you identify potential copyright complaints before a video is published and avoid videos being blocked or demonetized — or worse.
To use the new validation tool, simply open YouTube Studio on your computer and upload your video as usual. Content ID YouTube system checks the material protected by copyright, during loading and analyzes the content, description and video metadata for identifying problems with advertising .
YouTube says copyright checking takes only a few minutes, while ad validation takes longer. It is best to post videos after the reviews have been completed, but users can post videos while reviewing and then review them later.
After completing the verification process, you will see green checkmarks if you pass, or yellow / red warnings if your video has a problem.
Don’t worry if you get an alert – these are alert notifications so you can fix issues before the video goes public. Claims against you only take effect once the video is posted, so make sure you edit your video or dispute the claim to avoid demonetizing, blocking or deleting the video, and further copyright infringement complaints that could harm your channel.
What to do if you receive a copyright or advertising suitability notice
Copyright warnings
For complaints of copyright infringement, you can:
- Use YouTube studio’s built-in editing tools to trim, mute, or replace a marked part of a video.
- Edit and re-upload the new version of the video with the copyrighted section removed.
- Dispute the claim. If you do so, advertising revenue will be withheld until the dispute is resolved.
- Post your video regardless of the problem. This may affect its visibility and any ad revenue will pass to the copyright holder unless you correct or dispute the claim. In some cases, videos may be blocked if the copyright infringement complaints are serious enough and not addressed.
Ad suitability alerts
If your video is flagged with an ad alert, you can either update the video and / or its metadata to fix the issue, or dispute the claim.
Official Message YouTube provides recommendations for updating the metadata and editing the content of your video to solve the problems with advertising.
If you choose to dispute an ad-acceptability alert, a real person will check your video against YouTube’s ad guidelines and send you an email as soon as a verdict is reached. This may take several days.
It is important to note that videos are scanned for potential Content ID claims only at the time of initial upload. Copyright infringement warnings can occur manually after a video is posted, and there could be future advertising usability issues if changes to YouTube’s advertising policy make your metadata obsolete. However, YouTube hopes the new checks will make it easier to handle Content ID complaints.
