As a pet owner, you probably came home or woke up to find evidence of nightly shenanigans around your living quarters. However, fortunately, if you want to set a quick observation of the specific area (perhaps you have a curious roommates or are you going out of town and feel paranoid), you can go to the website crister.camera .
This is a simple web-based way to record motion that any connected or built-in webcam detects in a specific area. You don’t need to install an app or go through a complicated setup process – all you need to do is grant the website access to your webcam (while you’re using the site) and hit the big pink Start button. The website will start to “calibrate” which is not what I’m used to seeing on websites, but I am assuming it records which parts of your webcam image are static so that it can then correctly identify any changes to pictured as “movement. “
Once you hit the start button and walk away, that’s it. The “calibration” process will continue and then the website will take a snapshot of any movement it detects in the webcam image. And by “any” I mean just that; you’ll get a pretty hefty gallery if anything happens while you’re away. (You might not want to point your webcam at, say, an outside window, lest you get a thousand images of a swaying tree.)
The gallery will look a little odd at first, as you will see many colors on top of the actual images to indicate movement:
Click any of the images, and when they appear, use the second icon (which looks like a series of dots with a line running through them) to turn coloring on or off. Then you can upload any images or delete them completely. At the very least, you’ll get a pretty good idea of what happened in front of your webcam the night before.
