It has been several years since renowned universities began offering some of their courses online to everyone – students or not – and, in some cases, free of charge. You were probably very excited when you first heard of this concept and bookmarked several different courses that you planned to take when you had time. (You know, because you wanted to give yourself the opportunity to really immerse yourself in the material.)

Well, maybe it’s time for you to grit your teeth and sign up. The next step is choosing a course. To narrow range of issues, the good guys from the Business Insider compiled a list of the nine free online courses offered by New York University (NYU), covering several disciplines.

It should be noted that while the classes themselves are free, if you want to receive the actual certificate associated with the course, you will have to pay for it. Anyway, here are some options .

Introduction to Information Security

Learn the basics of cybersecurity, security engineering, and related ethical issues in this area.

Network introduction

No, it’s not about awkward conversations at parties and work meetings – it’s about computer networks.

Introduction to Performance Research

See, these are not all computers! Take this course and add your name to the long list of people who have studied productivity at NYU.

Basics of computing and programming

Okay, back to computers. If you’re looking for an introduction to things like binary, positional number systems, and branching operators, this might be the one for you.

Creative coding

If you are interested in learning how to design games, drawing, and other creative projects, this course is probably worth your time – assuming you already have a decent working knowledge of programming.

Introduction to Database Queries

If you find yourself in a position requiring knowledge of the SQL programming language, but have not yet reached that level, this class will help you get started.

Introduction to C ++ Programming

Those who are already a little familiar with coding, but have not yet had time to dive into C ++, are well suited for this class.

Media and technology theories

This course may sound like a liberal arts course, but it is also a computer lab, albeit one about how media and technology have shaped our culture and society.

Health Engineering: An Introduction to Yoga and Physiology

If you have ever attended a yoga class and asked a teacher what exactly was going on in your brain and body during yoga and he gave a verbose answer using the word “energy” but not really saying anything – they should probably go through this course. Or indeed, anyone interested in the physiological effects of yoga and mindfulness.
